CV & positioning
Presenting a 20–30+ year career on a CV
Your CV does not need to be a full autobiography. It needs to make your fit for the work you want now easy to understand.

Start with the role you are targeting
Choose the experience and achievements that answer the employer’s needs. A clear opening summary should describe the contribution you can make now, rather than simply counting the years you have worked.
Give recent, relevant work more space
Describe relevant responsibilities and outcomes clearly. Earlier roles can often be grouped into a short career summary, unless a particular role is important to the opportunity. Keep dates and claims accurate.
Make the next chapter understandable
If you are moving into different or less senior work, explain your motivation in the application and conversation. Keep your LinkedIn profile consistent with your CV, so the two tell a clear and credible story.
