Working differently
Explaining a move to less senior or part-time work
Wanting fewer hours or less responsibility is not a failure of ambition. It is a choice that deserves a clear explanation, especially when your previous roles suggest something different.

Be clear about what you do want
Describe the kind of contribution, hours and responsibilities that would suit you. Employers need to understand your interest in their role, rather than hearing only about the pressure or politics you want to escape.
Address practical questions directly
Consider the salary, reporting relationship and day-to-day duties before applying. Be ready to explain why these are acceptable to you, without promising that every arrangement will suit.
Match your examples to the work
Show that you can contribute at the level needed and work well within the team. Your experience is useful, but the application should be about this role, not an argument that you ought to be doing a more senior one.
