Deciding whether retraining is worthwhile
A qualification can open a door, but it can also cost time and money without changing your prospects. Start with the work you want, then assess whether study is the best route to it.

Check what the work actually requires
Read current role requirements and speak with employers or people in the field. Distinguish between a mandatory qualification, a useful skill and a course that sounds appealing but is not needed.
Compare the full cost with the likely benefit
Consider fees, study time, lost earnings and the realistic salary after completion. Ask course providers about placement requirements and outcomes, and test their information against independent conversations.
Consider a smaller first step
A short course, supervised experience or relevant project may help you test your interest. Sometimes your transferable skills provide a route without starting from scratch. Sometimes substantial study is essential. The decision should follow evidence, not urgency.
